Wednesday, June 25, 2014 found me comfortably sitting in the shade of a large old maple tree at the main crossroads in Old Town, Warrenton, VA, across the street from the Red Truck Bakery.

Molly's and The Black Bear
On June 18, 2014, I sketched two of my regular dining spots on Main Street in Old Town Warrenton, VA. Molly's Irish Pub serves great Irish "pub grub" and The Black Bear serves fantastic Pizza, great burgers and tasty dinner fare. The day was very warm and humid, but the joy of sketching relieved all discomfort.

New York Avenue Presbyterian Church
Rode the metro into Washington, DC on a beautiful spring morning intent on sketching one of the beautiful churches that are located in the city. The New York Avenue Presbyterian Church was the first one we came upon. It's a rather austere but beautiful structure, nestled in amongst the eyesores that are the office buildings of our nation's capital.

Chess Masters
A friend and I went into Washington, DC to take in the Van Gogh exhibit at The Phillips Collection. As you might expect, it was, at the same time, extremely humbling and very inspiring. Afterwards we had a quick lunch and then took our inspiration to Dupont Circle for some sketching. I found Danny and Michael playing chess and their October chess match became my subject.

Chrysalis Winery, Middleburg, VA
Enjoyed a very pleasant July 4th with my wife and friends at Chrysalis Winery. I was enthralled by the repeating pattern created by the deck umbrellas and the architecturally interesting entry way. Returned on July 7th with sketch book and media. Enjoyed more great wine and fought the wind which repeatedly moved the paper under my brush. Still, I liked the result.
